Registered Investment Advisor (RIA)
A firm or individual registered with the SEC or a state regulator to provide investment advice for compensation.
A Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) is an investment advisory firm or individual registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or a state securities regulator. RIAs are held to the fiduciary standard — the highest standard of care in financial services — requiring them to act in the best interest of clients at all times. Unlike broker-dealers, RIAs typically charge asset-based or flat fees rather than commissions. The RIA model has grown significantly in the past decade as investors seek unbiased, fee-transparent advice. For RIAs serving income-oriented clients, dividend analytics tools that demonstrate portfolio income reliability and cut risk are becoming core to the client reporting workflow.
